Please help. Jennifer Zyman. Pretty picture of Captain D's with French Fries! Embarrassing. The recipe is a no brainer. Why are Atlanta's fraudulent Brit or Scot restaurant owners cluless.
Those are niether fish nor chips. SERIOUSLY. Are there NO Brits in Atlanta??????? Fish... .lightly battered, fried and salted (Not Crispy, on a plate or with lemon) in white paper wrapping. Chips.....NOT FRENCH FRIES losers! They are doughy, buttered and salted slightly deep fried (in then out). They melt in your mouth. Good Lord people. Please stop insulting fish n chips!!!!! It's the only British food edible.
Have you tried OU4U on Hammond Drive? I think their falafel is better than Pita Palace's, and their hot sauce is hands-down better than the sweet-ish goop in the squeeze bottles at Pita Palace.
Also, Hovan in the Perimeter Mall food court makes a good falafel, believe it or not.
If you're not down with the chocolate and coffee selections at the No Mas Cantina offshoot, Adios Cafe, get familiar. Mayan Mocha is coffee, chocolate, steamed milk and just the right amount of chili. Unreal on a cold day. In fact, I'm going to get one right now.
Alpine Bakery's cannoli are the closest Atlanta has to New York's or Chicago's (can't include Sicily, of course). Ask them to fill to order and eat that day. Alpine's sfogliatelle ("sfoi-ya-del"--good luck with that) is excellent--they roll their own dough! I like the baked ricotta custard filling with citron and orange essence.
Although we loved Antico's true pizz, we were terribly, deeply disappointed by the cannoli (stale, yucky shells with way too much gunk on them, not Italian at all; you could hardly taste the ricotta in the filling). The sfogliatelle were dry, dry, dry, with way too much leaden filling. At $20+ for 3 of each, we felt so bad to throw them away.
Another great place for soup now that the weather is getting chilly is at Pho 96, also located near Rincon Lation (in fact is is almost right across the street).
The Pho Tai Nam, Pho Tai Chin Nach or Pho Ga are some of the best you will ever have. The broth is made from scratch everyday by a loving and caring owner/Mama-san. The broth is clear and NEVER greasy. The meat is tasty and full of flavor and the service is great. The decor is nothing to brag about, simple chairs and tables with bottles of Chiracha Sauce and Hoisin Sauce to add to the bowl of steaming goodness.
There are 3 sizes of bowl: small, large and xtra-large (my favorite). I never leave here hungry and usually take home the extra broth for a late night snack or for a mid morning snack at the office. Prices are cheap with nothing on the menu for more than $9.95.
If you are looking for authentic Vietnamese Pho, then Pho 96 is the place. Some of the meat choices they serve, you can only find in a restaurant that caters to people of this nationality. If you are feeling adventurous, try the beef tripe and tendon. Anthony Bourdain or Andrew Zimmern would feel right at home with this place.
Tell that to Joel Brasserie, cmd002. Or Joel Robuchon.
The company actually makes many different butters.
They do have a cooking/pastry butter, but we tasted the demi-sel, which is a table butter.
Echire is for cooking. It has the highest fat content and is used by most of the top French Chefs. It's high fat content keeps it from burning easily and is great for basting fish and meat. It's not made for spreading on your roll.

I was on my way to Pho Dai Lo in Jonesboro, when I came across VN Pho in Morrow and decided to give it a chance. I have to say, it was amazing. Really well done.
As a side note: I saw Zombieland the other day and you can see VN Pho in the background during the 'bathroom scene'.
I wish they would bring Pinkberry down south. In the meantime, Yoforia is definitely good and so is the Yogurt Tap in Decatur (I'm still upset that they don't have have mochi though). If you're going to sell Asian yogurt, you've got to have mochi!
The Pho 79 at Plaza Fiesta was way below par the one and only time we tried it. One of the dishes we got was burned rather than caramelized, and they were totally unapologetic and rather rude to my taste.

You may wish to add Pho 79 to your list of places that make good bun and pho. They are located at the edge of Dunwoody these days at the intersection of Peeler and Winters Chapel Roads. When they closed their Buford Highway location, my girlfriend & I spent the months waiting for the new one by trying other places on the highway. She was not satisfied with any of them and was greatly relieved when Pho 79 opened their current location.
