Can someone, anyone, please point me to where by act of legislature Atlanta HAD to keep the tax rate as it was and HAD to spend it on a new stadium for the Falcons??
Every time we discuss the Falcons etc. the same talking point gets trotted out without question. It as about as true as the now clearly disproven $200 million talking point. There's a reason the funding was shoved through the city council without public vote, the major talking points appear to be exaggerations.
Again, if I am correct about the reading of the Hotel/Motel Tax legislation let me know.
Here is a good start:
Dave: I believe people who have a mental history should not be able to purchase a firearm. So does the NRA.
Jeezus. I am starting to rethink the family trips to Zaxbys. I wonder how much time these guys will actually serve for endangering the public. Why weren't they charged with attempted murder?
That section of O4W and parkway is one of the worst in the city, but no worries, the Section 8 contracts have been renewed for years to come!
Eighty baseball games, forty-one hockey games... this mayor sure knows how to bring activity to downtown.
Socialized risk, Thomas is probably not going to ask the Mayor if he was Arthur's poodle from day 1, d'you think? Maybe there's another way to ask why nobody tried to derail the Falcons hotel tax heist, with backing from the Braves. Mind you, the money would be much better spent on infrastructure, but if we must fling $400-500mm of tax revenue at a ball team, make it the one that plays 80 times a year.
It's the question that screams to be asked, especially given the city's logic when the Braves went public with their treachery.
$50 says Ehrhart is mad about A&E firing the duck dynasty guy. FIRST AMENDMENT! FREE SPEECH! HUBBUB HUBBUB RABBLE RABBLE!!1!1
Friends in Cobb have told me that the stadium site has two issues: the Colonial Pipeline goes through it and there is a vent for the sewage treatment tunnels. If the latter is actually true, that means the stadium actually is being built on a literal shithole.
Cityzen, Liberty should have had someone local to cozy up with the mayor like Arthur Blank did. Here's the thing, in 2010 Reed had just moved from the state legislature into city hall with the promise that he's use his connections to make Atlanta's case with state lawmakers. You don't have to be a genius to connect the dots and see Reed's hands all over the 2010 law. He was Arthur Blank's poodle from day one.
"I've still never seen an episode of Duck Dynasty except for a few scenes while channel surfing. I'd rather watch paint dry."
I've watched it a few times and enjoyed it. Its like visited my relatives without having to go to South Georgia.
"I was speechless when you identified Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity etc. as your sources to bolster your argument. LMAO! That's the funniest thing I've heard lately."
You're welcome. It was meant to be tongue in check. There is no greater gift than a good laugh. Merry Christmas, my friend.
@ Mark from Atlanta
I was speechless when you identified Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity etc. as your sources to bolster your argument.
LMAO! That's the funniest thing I've heard lately.
And how would they know? And for that matter, how would you know? You ran off at the keyboard before you put your brain in gear.
I'll take your word for it, since I don't listen to them.
But I'll remind you of this the next time you try to rub another poster's nose in the mud for quoting Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity etc.
"The GA Dome has been used by hundreds of sporting organizations, concert promoters, event promoters, religious groups, etc....basically anyone with enough juice can rent it out. How is that anything like the Cheetah?"
The answer is in the question.
(me Lewis, you Martin)
The die was cast in 2010 when the hotel tax was re-dedicated to the Falcons with nothing for the Braves. Why didn't the Mayor intervene with his old Gold Dome buddies then? The question that no journo will ask. ("Arthur Blank is on the board of the AJC's parent company," as the disclaimer goes.)
Who ever said that drag is only for gays! Drag is entertainment for everyone, and as Charlie Brown said - Leave the Bull Shit outside, Lips is all about fun!
True Lips isnt Bacchanalia, but its definately the most entertaining dinner theater experience in Atlanta, and our group thought the food was just fine!
By the way, Charlie Brown was just a fabulous as I remembered her to be! She is FABULOUS!
It takes practice, using proper site alignment and trigger control for accuracy. These hoods hold their plastic Glocks sideways and just fire away.
I could easily hit someone in the head from 50 feet plus with my Sig Sauer P229. Practice at the range is a must however.
It takes an intelligent person to properly maintain and accurately shoot a firearm. I guess that's the real reason Mark got rid of his all those years ago.
Had narrowed the field (for Georgia DipShit of the Year) to Jason Spencer or Hans Utz. But then there's Duriya Farooqui's iPad...
"You would think that the gun manufacturers would make the firearms idiot proof, but I guess that would cut into half their sales."
* rimshot *
"you seemed to have replaced it with an equally unrealistic view of the world wherein Tea People and Duck Dynastics are somehow more "authentic" than everyone else."
Hmm...no I was leftward when young and rightward when older...nothing odd or unrealistic there...and I've still never seen an episode of Duck Dynasty except for a few scenes while channel surfing. I'd rather watch paint dry. Nor do I belong to any Tea Party group. I only met some of those folks when I did video work for them, just like I've done video work for the DNC. I do defend them from misinformed attacks on these pages and I do agree with some of the rhetoric, but "more authentic?" *shrugs* Also Purple Haze was mediocre...Windowpane...THAT was the shit!
""That's just nuts." Mark and others, suggest we use this blanket response to Oy from now on. A stadium whose profits go to a private company and that will charge a hefty ticket price for admission is no more of a public amenity than Cheetah or the Ritz-Carlton."
Go right ahead. I've been called nuts by greater guys than you, cityzen of Utopialand. And you ARE nuts if you think a towns sports franchise is the same as a strip club or a hotel. True they are both incorporated businesses so I guess that's enough, right? The GA Dome has been used by hundreds of sporting organizations, concert promoters, event promoters, religious groups, etc....basically anyone with enough juice can rent it out. How is that anything like the Cheetah? Oh yeah...they're both incorporated businesses, so...just the same.
There's a conclusion...jump on it!
