Re: “Restaurant Review: Gunshow

After watching Gillespie get handled on Knife Fight and hearing the judges critics, I realized I can't afford to go here because there's bound to be a lot of misses vs. hits. His food was often dismissed for being too simple.

Kevin seems to know what ingredients to buy and how to cook them properly. But combining them into one cohesive vehicle and elevating the flavors is something that appears to be lacking. For the prices they charge, I need the chef to enhance the flavors past just "cooking it right."

Atlanta is a cheap enough city where yuppies living in cheaper inner city neighborhoods have even more disposable income to spend...so they go to places like this because they can afford to eat over priced, under delivered food. If most of those yuppies lived in NYC, in a tiny shoe box apartment paying 1800 in rent...I doubt they would go here...or if Gun Show would be good enough to even compete with the big boys on the culinary world. Atlanta is child's play.

Re: “Potential new owner of Underground Atlanta envisions 'community rather than a destination'

I walked through Underground for the first time in about 20 years when I took MARTA to the Indie Craft Experience at the Depot. There were lots of people around and it wasn't nearly as scary as people would lead you to believe. The underground part has a lot of potential in the right hands and if they can get a Whole Foods or Fresh Market there it will do wonders for the thousands of people who already live downtown.

Seems legit... but I did worry when I visited their website and saw one WalMart and strip mall after another.

Re: “First Slice 12/16/14: Kennesaw Council takes a mulligan on proposed mosque, approves permit

I don't think the 13 years we spent in Afghanistan fighting the Taliban counts as fighting them with "good vibes", Dave. It's worth noting that it wasn't even a particularly effective methodology for eliminating groups like that.

To act as though nobody is noticing these atrocities is a joke-- it's just that eliminating groups like the Taliban, ISIS, and Al Qaeda is fundamentally different than fighting against Germany under the Nazi regime.

Also don't be such a dense fucking idiot. "Coexist" bumper stickers aren't referring to fucking ISIS. There's no Swastika on there for similar reasons.

Re: “MLK Jr. Drive, get ready for your facelift

I live a block from MLK and what we need is better lighting... better policing... and the demolition of abandoned buildings owned by absentee landlords who refuse to fix their properties. All the pretty trees in the medians will mean nothing till the real problems are addressed.

Re: “Restaurant Review: Gunshow

Never have made it over here. I'm sure they do some great stuff, but I'm not into paying 10-15 dollars per bite, and it seems that some have found it difficult to do dinner here (i.e. waiting a long time for certain things to make it to their table, etc.).

Would be an interesting social experiment for them to trot around some ridiculously small (and insanely overpriced) morsel, perhaps even a tootsie-roll, and peddle it as 'gourmet corn and sugar based dessert with hints of cocoa...'. I'll bet there'd be some takers...

Re: “Reed to announce Underground Atlanta's redevelopment tomorrow (Update)

Let's get GSU and Tyler Perry together and make a bunch of promises about a film studio and communications department which can't possibly be kept. Well lit underground streets might actually work well for both parties.

Re: “VH1's 'Sorority Sisters' roasted on Twitter (Update)

I thought all sororities were populated with dumb trifling bitches who can't make friends on their own.

Black, white, or zebra.

A friend's daughter even joined a Christian sorority but quit because they were a bunch of hypocrites. DUH!

Great. They can pole dance, underwater of course, alongside the pole-dancing dolphins. Keep the dolphin captivity industry afloat!

Re: “VH1's 'Sorority Sisters' roasted on Twitter (Update)

Sorors and Frats are very hypocritical in wanting this show banned. They watch all of the LHH franchises, Bad Girls Club, RHOA and any other "ratchet" show that comes on. Are sorority Blacks better than those listed above? FOHWTBS Just an hour before they were live tweeting LHHNY. SMDH

Re: “Reed to announce Underground Atlanta's redevelopment tomorrow (Update)

This is the city that invented half-assed. The airport was about the only thing Atlanta had gotten right in the last 50 years, but we just screwed that up, too (International Terminal and its boneheaded check-in and baggage claim protocol is effectively a second airport with no transit service). My hopes are particularly dim for Underground, especially as no one with the juice for a really good project-- even Georgia State-- would come near it.

As for the infrastructure bond, there is still a lot of pork for the Nod Squad in the project list. I suspect that until some of this is stricken out in favor of real infrastructure improvements (ahem...), the bond vote faces an uphill battle with the electorate regardless of whether or not we've identified revenue to service the debt. Reed can try to make his case, but enough is enough.

Re: “Reed to announce Underground Atlanta's redevelopment tomorrow (Update)

@Brecko,
Miscommunication but i think we're in broad agreement. WRS's Horizon Charleston project is not the downtown shopping street you were mentioning - it's an office / mixed use park that looks pretty suburban. Nor have WRS actually done Horizon beyond pretty pictures!

In general, it should be no surprise that we can't move half a dozen major pieces of land in the city to top-notch developers in a single year. There simply isn't that much pent-up demand for new buildings.
