Re: “A call unanswered

Robert Draper, I was Tina's highschool boyfriend from just before she turned 15 until I lost contact with her when she was 17. I have pictures, handwritten letters and an oral history of that time frame. If you are willing to do a follow-up piece I would share this info with you. Just post in this thread on how to contact you.

Re: “A call unanswered

I have since learned that this is not the same Tina. However, I am familiar with this ones family. God Bless to all involved.

Re: “A call unanswered

I was Tina's roommate when we were little girls on Desert Vista. A place we should have felt safe but it wasn't. Even the in there she was victimized by men. I will never forget the torment she lived with when we were little. I am not saying what she did was OK but you have no idea some of the things she suffered.

Re: “A call unanswered

Robert, will you please write a follow-up to A Prayer For Tina Marie? I bought Best American Crime Reporting 2002 just so I could read it, and there is very little on the Internet about her or her case. Highly curious minds need to know more. Thanks!

Re: “A call unanswered

Bonnie, this is Robert Draper, the writer of the story in GQ. It's been 12 years since I wrote the story and I don't recall whether she had 2 crooked fingers. I do seem to recall that she had a brother, and I'm certain she was from Arizona. Her father molested her repeatedly as a child. Obviously that does not excuse what she did to her own children.

Re: “A call unanswered

I just found out today what happened. I can't believe this is the same girl whom I was so close to as a kid. I have so many questions. I need to clarify if this is the same person. The Tina that I knew had to crooked pinkys. She had a brother. Her mother had them living all around the desert. I'm hoping this is not the same Tina. Any clarification would be appreciated.

Re: “A call unanswered

I was in jail with tina cornelius for a couple of weeks for a driving while intoxicated.Man,she always laughed and had a smile on her face like nothing at all had happened.I did not know at first what she had done, because like i said she always was very happy and stuff. She also always talked about having her boobs done when she gets out and stuff etc.......But when i found out,i just could not believe how careless she could act with not a care in the world. She had two pictures taped up on her wall in her jail cell. One of her boy,and one of her girl.I just could not believe my eyes, how could she even still look at their beautiful faces.Knowing what an horrible thing she has done to them beautiful children. What is wrong with that horrible excuse of a human being??????????????Absolutely disgusting! She honestly needs to burn in hell, which she will!!Because she is an horrible and disgraceful human being!! I know these beautiful kids are with god now.Looking at their mom down from heaven asking:How could you just leave us there, knowing that we could not make it by ourselves, and that we were helpless. And had no way to safe ourselfs, because we were hurt and drowning in the creek.Because we had noone to safe us.Where were mommy??????????How could you just hurt and leave us to die like this???Iam so very,very............................sorry for you two beautiful angels. If i could take back what your own flesh and blood did to you, i swear i would take it back!!! I don't know you two,but always know that you are always in my prayer. And that i love you guys, even though i never got to know you!!Rest in peace you two angels!!And always know that i love you, even though i never got to know you!!!!!!Love,Tanja!!!

Re: “A call unanswered

tina is my cousin.....I was very close to her and the rest of her (my) family growing up, she lived with me after amanda was born, amanda was over 2 months premature when she was born....she was such a miricle....and what Tina did to her and dominick (whom I never got the blessing to meat...she moved away when she was pregnant with him. anyway, what she did to her children and to our entire family is....more than heartbreaking...it's..it's unthinkable. more than I can begin to explain to anyone. And to this day, none of us, not even her own mother or sister , knows what exactly happend.

Re: “Free booze at the Bone Garden

God, I love to read your columns, Hollis. I had to move from Atlanta five years ago to my hometown of Augusta. Man, do I miss Atlanta! One of the things I missed the most was Creative Loafing, and your column was (is) my favorite. Just got a computer lately and can't get enough of you. You are flat out heelarious!

Thanks for keeping an Atlanta expatriate amused.

I am Lisa's mom, and I loved your article. You are right; Lisa and Marshall would be there for anyone in need, and she tells me everyone has been wonderful to them. Lisa and Marshall are overwhelmed at the generosity. We are very fortunate no one was hurt. Thank you, Hollis...
