Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

"Semi-free ride"? Did Full Moon Records take a pass on buying your carefully curated record collectIon or something? You seem very bitter yourself. Why are you so invested in acting like an ass towards the record store owner?

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Darryl, you bring up some good points, but even if Selke wanted to "negate" or "delay" the action he would still be forced to vacate his home of 20+ years due to a landlord who has owned the property for less than 1. Also it's unfair to say that he's had a "semi-free ride for over a decade" -- it sounds like he has been a rent-paying tenant for 2 decades.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Yer welcome, NoHighFins !

That's a simplistic start to the solution, of course, but where else ya gonna start ?
Cat's had a semi-free ride for over a decade but nothing lasts forever.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

That's an interesting question for the staff---THAT Harper started as a musician didn't he ?

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Is this the new landlord the same Clay Harper who founded Fellini's?

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

I still disagree.

Here's why:
The eviction letter apparently included offer to help relocate, something that was not neccessary to include if not intended as genuine.

If you re-check the article, the current owner bought it a year ago, not just "a few months".
That's not specifically relevant to "right/ wrong" in the issue here but leads me to think there's more to this than meets the eye.
Possibly he'd tried to work something out but had been rejected...or maybe not.

More importantly, the fact that the owner let the situation go on for almost a year SOMEWHAT provides cover for Selke's potential negation or delay of the eviction.
That's compounded, ironically, by the fact that Selke lived there for so long, apparently without being warned.

Lastly, it's possible to either negate or delay this action if Selke really wants to but he has to try to do so not just feel sad or angry.

"Also that the landlord's tone is more positive ('he's a great tenant but...') & offers to help the store relocate, whereas Selke seems quite bitter."

LOL. Of course it is - he's the one losing his home and business in one fell swoop. The other guy seems to be blowing sunshine. "He's a great tenant"? The landlord has owned the building for only a few months.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Actually, while I agree that this is an unfortunate turn of events, I must disagree that the landlord is to blame for the animosity, or at least fully to blame.

Note that this letter came to Selke before Nov, so that's at east 60 days notice, perhaps longer.
Also that the landlord's tone is more positive ("he's a great tenant but...") & offers to help the store relocate, whereas Selke seems quite bitter.

Even though he has no plans to continue the store, he claims to've increased his inventory recently & passed multiple oportunities to sell the operation. Surely some of those, if substantial, still exist.

Hard to be sure of the facts here but the most obvious solution seems to be simply to find somewhere else to stay, legally negating the cause for eviction.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

really really really wish this would be simply resolved or someone buys the inventory & keeps the name & moves.

ATL aint the same no more. It's as shallow as a streaming file and not deep like the grooves of the vinyl.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

If insurance was the only reason that the building owner had for eviction, then he could have easily simply asked Selke to move out and live elsewhere for the time it took him to either sell the shop or sell off his inventory. Instead, Harper has given him a short-notice complete eviction, which suggests to me that either there is some spite and malice involved, or he has some kind of big deal of his own in the works which requires that he clear the property immediately. Given the state of realty in Atlanta these days, I would assume much of the latter.

Re: “Washed Out crew joins Keath Mead

D'oh! Buren was not yet in the band for Whisper Tames The Lion. S'OK...I can't even keep up with my socks. They're not really a jam band either because no jam band would be caught dead with a power chord. A troubadour Kevn definitely is though so there you go....

Thank you for this tribute to Zac. He did live by a code. He was special. Life in Atlanta will never be the same. I hope you found your peace Zac. I hope you got to see your mom.
