Re: “Tommy Brown R.I.P (1931-2016)

Why is it so often that the media only bothers to tell us how great someone is once they die.

Re: “Quad, Spring4th leave Midtown

Not a fan of this scene, but this is an interesting read.

Re: “Quad, Spring4th leave Midtown

Does this affect the properties immediately behind the building? AKA Flex, and the abandoned brick thing next to the Georgia Tech underpass? Or will Flex remain, surrounded by increasingly high-end, student-focused mixed-use?

Re: “Quad, Spring4th leave Midtown

Crazy to think how long it has been since that picture was taken of me. The page turns. I really appreciate the backstory and things. I'm glad to be growing up and moving on, but I won't ever forget some of the first places in Atlanta where I could belong. Colaboratory, Spring 4th, and the church parties came after Alchemy. I think the most important thing is who are still my friends after stopping the rave scene.

The inclusiveness, acceptance, and radical expression is still alive and strong.

Re: “Quad, Spring4th leave Midtown

Thanks to Jonathan and CL for a tremendous and accurate story, well told.

Our family thanks everyone who attended events and enjoyed their stay at S4/QUAD. We were nothing without your support and compassion.

We wish the best of luck to the competition and to the continued success of our landlord Selig Enterprises. Without the quiet blessing of Steve Selig, our venue continued to grow into what it eventually became.

I also want to thank Chris, Elvis and Oreo for all their hard work for no pay over the years. I may have been the heart, but they were the muscle and brains that kept the party flowing.

Finally, love and much respect to my scene kids; I miss you all terribly. But for me, this is Farewell.

The only things I won't miss are the goddamn pencil pricks at City Hall, NPU-E, the so-called Midtown Neighbors' Association and APD License & Permits. Fuck those red tape impotent drones.

There. Now I feel better.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Sure sounds like Mr Selke was living the dream. Too bad he never accumulated enough money to just buy the building himself.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

I was sorry to hear Full Moon records closed. I went down there in the mid-90's to early 00's. I had not been in years. I had met Ted at a Joybang show and he was closing down and offered me a beer and we hung out and listened to music in the back apartment. I made some purchases on some good indie rock vinyl. Ted introduced me to Dottie's and also some great local music like Joybang, Flap, Gold Sparkle Band, Gitney Rats, and Seely. It was pretty cool to hear his story how he decided to open the store and the apartment in the back gave him the ability to live in a cool intown spot and also run a business. Just a really cool self-sustained independent business model that was pretty inspring. It's been a rather rough decade overall for retail, and Itunes has compounded the problem for indie record stores which hopefully will not become a relic in the near future.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

"Semi-free ride"? Did Full Moon Records take a pass on buying your carefully curated record collectIon or something? You seem very bitter yourself. Why are you so invested in acting like an ass towards the record store owner?

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Darryl, you bring up some good points, but even if Selke wanted to "negate" or "delay" the action he would still be forced to vacate his home of 20+ years due to a landlord who has owned the property for less than 1. Also it's unfair to say that he's had a "semi-free ride for over a decade" -- it sounds like he has been a rent-paying tenant for 2 decades.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

Yer welcome, NoHighFins !

That's a simplistic start to the solution, of course, but where else ya gonna start ?
Cat's had a semi-free ride for over a decade but nothing lasts forever.

Re: “Full Moon Records closing in December

"Hard to be sure of the facts here but the most obvious solution seems to be simply to find somewhere else to stay, legally negating the cause for eviction."
