Sorry, Kasim has to be the biggest joke of a mayor I have ever seen in my life. Apparently, he wants the city to remain an inner-city slum as evidenced by his letting the Braves move to the suburbs. And he didn't even bother to make an effort to keep the Thrashers, despite the fact that they brought thousands of fans downtown for 81 dates a year who spent their money in the city. I guess black people aren't supposed to support hockey.
Again, his only solution to anything is to throw more police out there and to turn the whole city into a police state. What a disgrace. I'm downtown every weekday and it is a sad, depressing, apocalyptic type of place, with police and ambassadors engaged in a stare-off with the homeless every day. Between the police, the ambassadors, the homeless, the trash, and the drug dealing, downtown Atlanta is the biggest freak show I have ever seen in my entire life. And not in a good way.
Vacant storefronts litter the entire downtown. And it's only gotten worse lately with construction workers digging up half of the city to make way for the trolley that no one will use. I've seen so many businesses downtown close lately because the trolley construction is making them unreachable. Downtown has turned into a ghost town, yet Park Atlanta is still terrorizing anyone who dares drive into the city. If Kasim were serious about revitalizing the city, he would have done something to keep the Braves downtown or he would have done something about the atrocity known as Underground Atlanta. But he obviously has no interest in spending money to 'fix' Atlanta. He'd rather spend it on campaigning or to hire more cops to stare at the homeless all day long.
Although i'd love to get into the Watson v Norwood argument of 'what have you done for me lately', was talking w/someone who asked a really interesting question on voter turn-out.
Kasim was re-elected with 47,161 votes
Total in Dickinson v Willis was 42,597 votes
Total in Watson v Norwood was 46,689 votes
MJ Bond uncontested pulled 39,493; Cesar Mitchell's race got 43,098
Where do those 5,000 folks who didn't vote for either Willis or Dickenson live -?
As far as run-off goes for ABOE 8, Cynthia folks are loyal, and Tidwell camp I suspect is strongly anti-Ruben as well. So it's the Mark Riley folks who will be the swing block, I think...; see if Reed and the business community can pull all those folks for McDaniel
saw a truckload of Reed boosters honking down the road in town last Saturday. when some of us on the sidewalk gave them a thumbs down, one of them shot us the bird. real classy, Kasim.
