To be clear that parking lot is already there, they're just hoping they can build a bridge between it and the shopping center and get permission to let customers park there. Which seems fine, I guess, as long as the parking lot's already there. Hopefully land will keep rising in value and it'll be developed eventually. There's already a parking deck attached to the proposed grocery store, so it's not really needed.
Her sister-in-law is also a former city employee named in a conflict of interest whistleblower lawsuit filed by Jomo Reynolds against Reed, Rohadfox, Yancy, and the City of Atlanta.
"Global warming is real, y'all, but people acting like current scientific knowledge is the same as religious dogma and then attacking legit scientists for 'blasphemy!' need to go cuddle up with a Bible and leave the rest of us alone."
Cassie - I agree 100%, but did you read the article by Curry that CL linked? Dr. Curry does exactly what you condemn. The funniest line is the one in which suggests that federal funding is tied to a regulatory scheme and only funds like minded scientists:
"In truth, the overwhelming majority of climate-research funding comes from the federal government and left-wing foundations. And while the energy industry funds both sides of the climate debate, the government/foundation monies go only toward research that advances the warming regulatory agenda."
This is hilarious because she goes on to say her funding comes from NSF, NASA, NOAA, DOD and the DOE! So much for the alleged funding bias.
Curry is an outlier in the scientific community and the isolation is not related to ideological bias, but due to the overwhelmingly body of peer reviewed research making her claims increasingly irrelevant.
SimplePete was/is actually a good read and represents a right wing amalgamation, sort of like Colbert. Heck I didn't even mind the Chuckie character since the cursing and put downs were original.
Eric Pfeiffers's current aliases merely critique specifically at other commentors (in one case always at me), without adding anything to the conversation, and sadly lack wit.
Creating multiple logins none of which are amusing is lame. Its like watching a struggling writer try to show-off his repertoire of writing....but they all suck. Maybe when I was 16 I'd think it was cool, but most of us have grown past that stage.
Parody without wit becomes whining.
Btw Wes was pointing out precisely your point in his rhetorical question; you have 1 account and you stick to it, not sad enough to set up 3 or 4 on CL alone.
Watch out for Rohadfox Construction. It is run by Joy Rohadfox, a once long-time girlfriend of Kasim Reed, who also made Kasim some very questionable "loans" in 2009.
WRS has partnered with other firms in developing more urban projects. I'm not to worried about that. What I do want is for them to minimize parking as much as possible. I would love to see street level retail in the two main decks. Right now there's just a dead zone on the blocks around these decks.
My one concern is the design abilities of WRS... this is neither a strip mall nor a cell phone store.
Professor Judith Curry is a scientist, and as a scientist she understands that the *point* of science is that sometimes scientific knowledge can turn out to be wrong and then needs to be revised and updated.
That's not a bug; it's a feature. The entire purpose of scientific knowledge is that is can be proven wrong - and right now, it's looking like the global climate models have been running a bit 'hot' due to some over-elaborated feedback loops and need to be tweaked.
Global warming is real, y'all, but people acting like current scientific knowledge is the same as religious dogma and then attacking legit scientists for "blasphemy!" need to go cuddle up with a Bible and leave the rest of us alone.
"As a scientist, I am an independent thinker, and I draw my own conclusions about the evidence regarding climate change. My conclusions, particularly my assessments of high levels of uncertainty, differ from the ‘consensus’ of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Why does this difference in my own assessment relative to the IPCC result in my being labeled a ‘denier’? Well, the political approach to motivate action on climate change has been to ‘speak consensus to power’, which seems to require marginalizing and denigrating anyone who disagrees.
The collapse of the consensus regarding cholesterol and heart disease reminds us that for scientific progress to occur, scientists need to continually challenge and reassess the evidence and the conclusions drawn from the evidence."
And just for you dogmatists out there, Judith Curry does think that global warming is real and that it is being caused by humans...she just understands the data in great detail (being a climate scientists and all) and thinks that the climate models need to be revised and updated. Not a big deal, unless you work for the Inquisition.
@clincher It appears that the block between Pryor and Central will be demolished with the exception of that tall building on the corner. I haven't been down there in forever, but it looks like what's going is not historic construction, at least not at street level. The majority of the block between Peachtree and Pryor is also presumably going away - honestly it doesn't seem like much of a loss. The historic storefronts on Peachtree and Broad Street are much more compelling. What I'm interested in is how they plan on saving the historic storefronts under ground and building on top. I'm a little terrified at the thought of what's going to go up in their place, given that this company has mainly developed strip shopping centers. Here's to hiring a decent architect...
My money goes to A3, comprised of Parsons Brinkerhoff, Inc., H.J. Russell & Co., and Heery International, Inc., unless Diversified Aviation Consultants is owned by a Reed crony.
What happens to the historic buildings on Lower Alabama (the ones above grade) in the plan?
"If you want to defend your boy, go for it. But let's not get confused."
Frankly, I am a bit confused. I don't know what "boy" you are referring to. My comment was in response to your decrying others for spending too much time in on the internet, something you and I both are guilty. As for setting up multiple accounts on here or anywhere else - man you have really got me pegged wrong. I am not even on myspace, facebook, twitter, tweeter, woofer or whatever. But I do get a kick out of whoever writes simplepete, voxapoopin etc. It just isn't my style.
I can almost promise that if we sync the traffic lights it will help so much in fixing our traffic problems on our surface streets. I live 2.5 miles from my work and it takes me 20 minutes on a normal day, up to an hour during rush hour. The biggest cause of this is traffic lights not matching up.
Guess what, Gary? The show wouldn't happen without the crew on the ground, either. You aren't any better then anyone else. Enjoy your pension from Crew One. What's that you say? You don't get one? Awwwww snap! Sucks to be a big time scab rigger, I guess.
Mark, how many fake accounts have you set up on CL?
If you want to defend your boy, go for it. But let's not get confused.
The meeting would have more relevance if the new owners attended.
"...might be the saddest thing I've ever seen on CL. Anyone with that little in their life has my sympathy."
I really don't think we have room to talk, buddy.
i'm all for it minus putting a parking hole next to central... WTF is with that?
Grocery store downtown: great. Giant parking lot for said grocery store: just looks strange in the center of downtown. If they want to foster a better connection with Georgia State it would be better to stick a building on that plot of land to encourage pedestrian activity. The combination of parking facilities and train tracks is a huge physical deterrent.
About fucking time!
