I'm meeting some friends I knew from Germany at this restaraunt tomorrow. I am looking forward to going and trying the food.
El Mexicano is the real deal. Those three street tacos pictured above, with the homemade habanero salsa pictured, along with complimentary chips and another, different, delicious homemade salsa will set you back $6. That's what I call a Happy Meal.
As for "Bandido," my restaurant gaydar would never let me get within a hundred yards of that place. You're asking for it walking into a place that looks like that. That's the kind of place that's described as "fun." As in, "get sloshed and you won't mind the food."
It's rare that a restaurant review can be both condescending to the reader (obviously Houston is vastly superior to Atlanta in terms of true and dear sir I do say true as I am an expert because I lived in Houston and have also lived in Atlanta and am a human being that metabolizes and therefore must both eat and talk down to waitstaff as I tell them, visa vie my condesention to their descriptions, that I sir am an expert from both Houston and now I live and metabolize in Atlanta) and surprisingly racist (deportation on grounds of authentic ethnic fare seems like a poor oversight on the editorial staff, but kudos on again reviewing budget American-mex with the scrutiny of a Pitchfork review of lost LCD Soundsystem demo). Because you once lived in Houston. I hope you don't get any more free meals on the CL dime, but I hear there's a wicked Scottish place with golden exteriors that is serving Expedited American cuisine if you really want to stick it to someone and trot out your racially-insensitive palate.
It really sucks being an under educated unemployed Troll that posts immature anonymous comments on CL while I wait for my welfare check. :( But that's my life..... :'(
I hope this pop-up pops up in place of El Overrated Pan.
Hipster coffee shops, duh.
The real El Bandido is whoever set the prices at El Overpriced Pan.
Thanks for resurrecting this now 8 year old thread,,,,,,,,,,,
Eli Kikov is no longer with H&F Bread. He now offering a better quality bread at his own bakery called Best Bread Baking Company.
If you have not been to Bon Glaze, you need to do yourself a favor and go. The Campfire donut is AMAZING. Red Velvet, Nanner, and Blueberry Sour Cream Cake also equally as delicious. It's heaven for anyone with a donut sweet tooth!
I had one of those Bon Glaze butterscotch and bacon doughnuts. Un-freaking-believable! Worth every penny.
Salted caramel balsamic was fantastic too.
A $7+ hot dog hardly qualifies as Cheap Eats when comparable places have them for less that $5! the dogs are quite tasty. Beer selection is limited. Service is incredibly slow. It took over 30 minutes to get two dogs with no one waiting ahead of us. This was very surprising given the food cart heritage.
I am so happy. I used to live right down the street. I did their website. Shot their food. AND I ate there at least once a week for 4 or 5 years. Awesome place for an uptight meeting with a client. Banana milkshakes, cubans, best black bean soup ever, but really just great people serving great food.
OMG it's like a dream come true. I used to work near there and the food at Havana Sandwich Shop is amazing. When they had that big fire and moved out to the suburbs it was a sad, sad day for food on Buford Highway (and that says a lot, because Buford Hwy has many excellent lunch options).
Seriously if you've never been you've been missing out - the food is fantastic. I recommend that you get the Cuban sandwich with black beans and rice for your first time: many other items on their menu are delicious but this is their signature meal. The flan is also good.
Thanks for the tip! I'm going tomorrow! :-)
I lived in Atlanta from 1986 - 2000. This is Atlanta's best kept secret right here. The Havana Sandwich Shop is the best, especially the black bean soup. OMG!!
Be still, my heart
Three morons posting above.
Can I get a stiff drink to go with those prices?
The word 'tipple' specifically refers to alcohol: http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/…
You may not guess from her social media profile, but "Ms. Hansberger" is actual a "Mrs." . . .
