Re: “The 25th annual Golden Sleaze Awards

@GK While I'm no fan of some of the games Kasim has played lately, it seems that you need some education on the difference between state and city government.

Horrible, leftist article. Couldn't find any dems? Really? Are Kasim Reed shady deals just being ignored? By dems? Of course.

Re: “The 2014 Arnies Awards

I really really wish that voting moderates here in Georgia would stop being so easily scared.

Re: “The 25th annual Golden Sleaze Awards

@JF, Agreed. The legislature just committed a dozen extreme insanities and not even the moderates and liberals on this board seem to care enough to focus. The worst are filled with passionate intensity and the best lack all conviction [or something like that] - Yeats?

Re: “The 25th annual Golden Sleaze Awards

I do so wish that moderate Georgians here aren't spooked so easily.

Maybe then they would realize that their fear-ladened voting practices actually hurts all Georgians, themselves included.

Fair enough, since we have not discussed every topic under the Sun (yet). Here are two: 1) I am not an advocate of abortion 2) Economic expansion is not a panacea.

There goes my chances in any Democratic primary! LOL.

Now, lets see where you stray from Goper orthodoxy in a significant way.

The few that I know of have little to do with ideology and in the realm of neuroscience. It would take pages to explain them and you probably would not have the background to comprehend (no offense meant).

I once believed I had some original thoughts regarding political economy as I made my transition from rightwing to progressive. This transition was born of my experiences in the "school of hard knocks" making my way in the South. Later, when I went back to academic school I learned that folks all through history and all over the world had similar experiences/revelations.

"Read it again - that was not me."

You are correct - it was oydave giving a second example of John Lewis' rancid behavior to refute your tortured claim of Lewis' "integrity and gravitas." Oydave and I completely your refuted claim.

You then made the nonsensical reply to oydave that at least Lewis kept it to himself, which he did not do. He instead had a press conference about it. Have you forgotten that already, or is it selective memory?

"Who do you want to quote... yourself?"

Most folks go through their lives without ever having a truly original thought. I have been fortunate enough to have at least two and I am still trying at my age. Your disdain for novel thinking is disturbing. Now I understand why you could not give me an example of one of your beliefs that strays from the rightwing canon - you have none. You have apparently shut down that part of your frontal cortex that entertains, embraces and espouses new thinking. I guess it is more comfortable that way, but it is not being fully alive, my friend. It really is too sad for words.

"You might make a better case for your intellectual independence if you did not provide tedious clichés from dead European politicians."

They are tedious to you because they illustrate how foolish you are. Who do you want to quote - Pres. Obama or Hillary Clinton or Pres. Carter - or perhaps yourself? In a few decades the verdicts will be in on them and you (actually, on Carter it's already in) and Churchill will still be the top of the heap. You could do far worse than to study Churchill.

Yeah, just like you did about John Lewis' racist rant and his piss bottle to take a shot at Julian Bond. LMAO

Actually, you would win easily in Georgia because everything you spout comes across as a communique from Fox News.

Southern White Male as Rightwing? It is so sad - your path was set from birth and you followed it like a sheep. If I am wrong provide examples.

"You often remind me of myself in my youth"

That's strange because on occasion you remind me of my younger self. Then I was less conservative and more inclined to listen to liberal drivel that the world owed me a living and the Government would take care of me, in return for always voting to support the government candidate.
Then I read Churchill, who wrote, "If you're not a liberal at twenty you have no heart, if you're not a conservative at forty, you have no brain.”

"Whoa! Good dodge. Are you running for office or something?"

It's no dodge. I am unelectable for office because I express what I think, not what expect others want to hear.

You may be right, Broch. You often remind me of myself in my youth when I was very conservative and had a common characteristic of the young - a paucity of empathy. Whenever I think of that kid he annoys me!
