I was there in 1962, but they say it opened in 1070. Time warp
I recently arrived back into Atlanta. I thought I would go to Johnnys with a friend of mine. She's ftom Tybee and had never heard of Johnnys. We now have been 3 times in about 1 week. She absolutely loves this place. Great atmosphere. Great service. Great people.
Thank you Johnnys. JV.
best thing in the Loaf!
THE FACT YET REMAINS.... There WAS ONLY ONE band..... that Author/political Sociologist & Anthropologist.. "Touted" in the Early " 60s'. " Dr. KEN KEYSEY formerly, an english Professor in a pre --1960s' Bow-Tie University. IT WAS HE... and his "Merry Pranksters" that....
were the megaphone... (Along w/ the Psychedelically-Painted "BlueBird School Bus"), that afforded the "GRATEFUL DEAD" their first Platform.. outside of No. Ashbury Streets' Coffee houses and former 'Beatnik -Hangouts'. The
un-abaited passing of Virtuoso -- JERRY GARCIA (and the
seen/unseen "dancing Bears"... usually summoned by some 'blotter ACID'!) --
that was featured on the FRONT PAGE of Nearly ...Every Newspaper in the Continental U.S., the day after his Passing! There WILL NEVER ... NEVER Be another Band as Illustrious,
'San Franciscoed', FILLMORE EAST & FILLMORE WEST.. Proven.. or Golden - Gate PARK Playin'. (remember.. the initial "Gathering of the Tribes"
Concerts?) An 'eminent' of a Musicians Line -up of pure NUT GENIUSES that the 'Dead boasted as a
"Starting Line -up!"
These Individuals Were about 72% of the First "ROLLING STONE" Newspapers Copy (on NEWS PRINT!) that typified an "Underground" Newspaper (even though it was closer to a "HIP" 'Cash BOX or BILLBOARD' than a True Underground Pub. (like the "VILLAGE VOICE".) No Matter, what Mssrs. Mickey Hardt, Bill WEIR,or any of the other "Survivors' of the "DEADs' " GOLDEN DAYS of TOURING" and the 'Be -- INs'
NOPE... NO OTHER BAND.. THAN the ORIGINAL "GRATEFUL DEAD" -- R.I.P.!!
Nice...Very Nice Mr. Winter!
I've always thought of attending this event, now I'm sold.
quite entertaining read Mr. Winter
Glad to see you back man!!!
I love the MOP! where has this column been at yo!? LONG LIVE THE MAYOR OF PONCE!
and fuck any bar/club/whatever that plays any 95.5 the beat songs.
glad to see someone under 55 years old writing for the Loaf's nightlife department.
yr column is the first i flip to when i pick up a CL...where's it been?
As much as I would like to say I'm done with clubs, they constantly provide me with 'conversations' with girls who are more into the fact that I wear tight pants than any other aspect of my life. I can't wait to put myself in some socially awkward situations in this place, assuming it stays open for more than 3 months and doesn't charge a cover, or have a VIP, or have a dress code, or play Usher, or have three people entering a bathroom stall at once. Or maybe not.
Why haven't you been writing?
Oh well - your absence paid off. This is well written and made me *gasp* go check out Door 44.
The Mayor returns! Nice review. Apt. Concise. I checked the spot out -- tons of potential. Let's see if they can make it work...
LOVE LOVE LOVE DOOR 44...NICEST CLUB IN ATLANTA AND THE STAFF ALL ROCKS. LOVE IT.
wow jay, this is a totally grown up sounding review on your part! great analogies, objective critiquing...i'd say you're in danger of becoming a bona fide journalist here!
Glad to have you back. Have not been to Door 44 and probably will not for reasons unnecessary to post. Fuck Oh Snap Kid though. Party pictures are about as lame as he is. Doooooosh.
I love you
yay! finally a social ventures article I liked reading!
The last few weeks minus the m.o.p. have been blah :(
"Nomenclature eventually closed its doors thanks to the rising property value as a result of the scene it started." Nicely put!
If it has an E. Atl vibe and all of the pretty emo boys in skinny jeans haven't found out about it yet, I am so there!
nomenclature. ah, those were the good ol' days.
