So, there's a nearly identical space in downtown Oakland called City Center. It has an at-grade promenade and a below-grade promenade leading to a major BART station. It is lively all day long and has a great selection of restaurants and shops.
MARTA has signs posted that say that bags and luggage are subject to inspection because of a federal law (itt probably has to do with all those terrorist attacks that happened on trains and buses.) Anyways, good job MARTA!
"fundamentally different than fighting against Germany under the Nazi regime. "
No shit! These guys are worse! The Nazis had the decency to wear uniforms and be from the same place and, in general, fight war like soldiers and not claim to be doing their evil in the name of God. These nutballs are from everywhere and look like everybody. That's the problem with religious zealotry and sudden jihad syndrome.
But there is one similarity with fighting Nazis and fascists. You defeat them by killing them dead. And a better managed presence in every theater of war we entered would have us a lot further along in the task. Both regimes at fault.
"It's worth noting that it wasn't even a particularly effective methodology for eliminating groups like that."
Not with these rules of engagement and commanders....
The bumper sticker bit was rhetorical...meant to tweak unicorn humpers...not specific. Don't be so dense.
QM, when I'm in the car, which is mercifully rarely, I do indeed rely on steam radio for diversion. And listening to the tedious twaddle that NPR has served up ever since it took fright at the Far Right (and fired Bob Edwards) is not my idea of diversion.
To have demolished two very different music stations in one blow is quite the achievement for Becker. I'm sure his takeover of Turner Field will be equally beneficial for the citizenry.
city: Are you one of the seventeen people in Atlanta who still rely on radio for music and news? And did you miss my point that the WRAS upheaval produced change where there had previously been none for too many years?
Nice! You might fall in love with the thrifted goodies at Theseodds.com too!
More than a third of women murdered in the U.S. are killed by their partners.
"Contribute to charities that combat unsociable behavior and ignorance."
@burroughston broch Again, we ask you, please take off the hood and come into the light. You can't seem to allow anything positive happening in a majority black part of town. You are at least as much a part of the problem as the driver and the passenger you describe. Do you understand that?
I agree that we're in broad agreement, but I want to hit this horse one more time, just to make sure it's dead.
I mentioned the King Street area in response to kiteless's comment about "out of town" developers. One needn't be from Atlanta to do an intown project right.
And the Horizon project, while still in the planning stages, isn't suburban. It's about two miles across the peninsula from the main entertainment/dining/shopping district.
You can see the site here: http://charlestonhorizon.com/the-site/
The high rise in the middle is a Marriott; the baseball stadium is where a minor league team plays; the land along the river is park; and up in the upper right corner is a marina.
The King Street area is about two miles to the left.
Writing all this raised another question: Does WRS have the capacity to undertake two very large projects at the same time?
"By pointing at a random black guy "
I pointed at George Chidi, not a random black man, and I told you exactly why I chose George. Don't try to change things.
"How do you know that?"
By George's response and yours.
"What, exactly, are YOU doing to improve the behavior of your culture?."
Raised 5 children and helping to raise 11 grandchildren, and will probably have grandchildren soon. Nothing more serious than a traffic ticket amongst all of them. Volunteer with various organizations, including those that deal with foster kids. Try to be a good role model. Contribute to charities that combat unsociable behavior and ignorance.
@QM, No. We don't owe Mark Becker any thanks for sticking us with two mediocre talk-news-all-the-time channels where until lately we had two very different music channels to listen to during the day.
Don't we owe a debt of gratitude to WRAS for waking WABE out of its long slumber? Wasn't WABE the weakest major market NPR station in the country?
Fantastic opportunity - and they see it. But can they deliver something neither yawn-worthy nor a failure? We need more than housing for Georgia State students downtown. Come to think of it, we need more than Georgia State downtown period. Why not get radical and build some work spaces! Downtown actually lacks in usable contemporary office space.
I applaud this effort. Easy to hate on it, because it's easy to hate on poor people; easy to say do more because, well, much more needs to be done. But we have to start somewhere. BTW, the medians are there because we need left turn lanes at the intersections - the medians are in between. Atlanta has narrow rights of way. Good job City of Atlanta!
Something tells me it would have "been in the works for years" to come if the wras takeover hadn't forced them to change. Finally, our public radio is catching up with that of lesser cities!
FIND MONICA... SHE IS NOT FORGOTTEN
"Would Dr. King be silent about this matter today? I think not."
So you're with North Korea on this one, Mark?
Anne2 you sound stupid! How did Andre know that Tiffany was murder if he never went in the house?????? Even in his facebook page he was acting fake. Then posted a picture of him smiling the next day. Girl Bye!!
