Despite problems with consistency, Fox Bros. serves up super-smoky ribs, pork, chicken and brisket that inspires passionate barbecue love on good days. The atmosphere the brothers have created is admirable, turning the space into what feels like a genuine Texas shack.
Hit the road to Tuscaloosa, Georgians. The imported cultural icon features Alabama-style pork barbecue with its characteristic charred edges, subdued seasoning and slathered sauce. It's accompanied by tangy slaw, crisp fries, rich pecan pie and logo T-shirts. Salads, sandwiches and such round out the menu. Good for takeout.
Don't go looking for souvenirs at the former pro-wrestler's joint -- they're absent -- but the restaurant is dedicated to barbecue and Chinese food. Stick to the ribs, rib tips and chicken and look for Abdullah (aka Larry Shreve) as he dominates the dining area and is friendly to fans.
