Re: “Georgia's deadly prisons

Geez that is an ignorant statement, one less person we use tax money on, how do you suppose the investigation into his death, the going thru and weeding out of what documents that can be released or hidden was paid for? Bottom line, inmates are humans, they were given a sentence by their peers, if you don't like it, don't make up excuses to get out of jury duty. Bryant was a convicted murderer who was never going to be a part if society again, serving his judicial sentence, he was clearly murdered, in the least foul play was involved. That is not humane. Do I feel for the Smith family loss? Of course, but I also feel for Bryant's familys loss. Violence in prisons not only affects the inmate, but the inmate's family.... The entire system needs a shakedown, serious reform. The step down system has not been implemented as described in this article, it has been tested in few instances, but hardly implemented Prison staff and inmates alike deserve to be safe, which means that inmate on inmate violence needs to be monitored better and officer on inmate violence needs to end, period. I could go on and on, but simply officers are hired to keep inmates safe, keep order, and account for their whereabouts, it's time they do that job. Prisons are no longer kept designated by violence levels, camps are call max security, or minimum security, but ALL levels of inmates are housed at each, got an inmate? We've got a bed. That's how it is done. I applaud Creative Loafing for tackling this issue, and some will not see the big picture. Humanity, very simple, it is unconstitutional to subject anyone to cruel and unusual punishment, we in Georgia are a civilized society, yet we are far more barbaric than the rest of the nation..... Think about that when voting in your politicians.
