Re: “David Fulmer shares his seventh novel

Interesting publishing idea-look forward to seeing how it turns out. Also the book; Godspeed, Mr Fulmer.

Re: “Urban forest fiasco

Thanks for getting this out there fast and in such a fair manner.

Lack of a hearing on Coffin's work issues, lack of verbal or written warnings about Coffin's alledged work performance, lack of evidence that city management ever offered Coffin or other employees work communication skills training- all of these seem like major issues that the city needs to address.

In a corporate environment, management would not think of exposing itself to such liability.

Re: “Clayton County's tribulations

Well done, if heartbreaking story. Many of the white people who have left Clayton County may not have had very deep roots there to begin with; the county itself was only created in the 1850s.Riverdale was only a crossroads even in the late 1940s. According to the article, Mr. Bell's family was from Jonesboro. I only point out these ironies to illustrate some of the complexities in deciding 'who's county is it anyway?'

Who established the excellent water system? Who brokered the sweet deal with the Atlanta Airport Authority back in the ?'60s -'70s? Who allowed developers to ruin the countryside with cheap housing? Who let in the subprime sharks? (Florida is having quite a time with the disclosure that the state licenced ex convicts as mortgage brokers down here.)

Who sold off our manufacturing jobs to multinationals who have been more than eagar to close our factories and move them to third world countries and China? (NAFTA)

Who is going to live in the Depot at Conley (Fort Gillem)? Where will they work?

We didn't learn in the '70s and we don't seem to be doing too good of a job now- unless southside Atlanta HUMANS work together, we're going to end up with less than nothing.

Clayton and its historic parent county, Fayette, are both topographically lovely, at least what has been left unpaved. I hope that this situation will open some eyes to the realization that 'development' in itself is not a cure all, that some sort of forethought about the consequenses of allowing 'developers' and 'banks' to set up shop, make their money and run, leaving the county uglier and burdened.

I personally am et up with curiosity to hear how a 30 year veteran of the Atlanta PD would explain the moral and even financial benefits (vs. enforcement and social services burden on Clayton County) of a strip club.

Re: “A horrible achievement

I actually just heard about this (xcept for the older art. abt "Met" partkway and the child.s home). I got an email linking to a Spring 2006 Women in Film Atlanta site that stated they were planning a psa about child pros. in Atlanta. I live in PC, FL and am wondering if this ever aired? What other groups are fighting this? Thanks for the write up.
