Hmmm.....The author of this blog post obviously hasn't been in Atlanta long.
He or she is still talking about "suburban flight" from Atlanta. Atlanta had only 393,000 residents in 1990 and 420-440K+ today.
And obviously there's a "black flight" from Atlanta today. Atlanta was almost 70% black in 1990. Today, it's in the low 50s.
Unfortunately, the "suburban flight" from Atlanta has been the poorer, lower income blacks. So now, only the higher income earners can really afford to live in the nice parts of the city.
Now, the higher incomer earners (mainly white, but not all) are the vast majority of new residents since they tore down all the public housing projects (and crime magnets) since the Olympics.
The lady who's husband worked for Lockheed got screwed -- by Lockheed!
Everyone else needs to move to Sweden or some other slow GDP growth country where the government can take care of you if you want to live above your means or take it easy in life.
I'm a Georgia Tech grad and came from a single parent home (3 kids). I was out of state (before HOPE existed) and used a partial scholarship, Pell grants, Stafford loans, RA in dorms, co-op program, and part-time work to get through Tech. So anyone talking about partying in Cancun and working 40 hours to pay for school as reason why the state should pay for his education is pathetic. All Ivan is going to do is use that free time for more trips to the beach!
