Transit! Yes, Underground is connected to Five Points, but there should be a shuttle type system in downtown like there is in Buckhead so people can go from Underground, to the park/aquarium/arena area and maybe up to Atlantic station. Once the Beltline is built, you could go from Underground, to Centenial Park, to Atlantic Station, to Midtown, to Buckhead without ever getting in a taxi or a car.
Great comments by everyone. I remember back in the 80's when they discussed bringing Underground back and everyone was excited that this part of downtown might get revitalized. It never happened like everyone hoped, but as the panelists pointed out, it wasn't necessarily done right.
I think the solutions needs to combine a little of everything - a casino with a skyrise (not necessarily tall) hotel, an ampitheatre, conversion of the old WOC to a historic museum, bars, restaurants, and condos. It needs to be a destination not only in tourists eyes, but in the eyes of Atlantans.
