I completely sympathize with any woman who has been allegedly battered... however, that was not was she reported in the police report. If she had, I surely would have reported it, and if she wants to contact the police, or The Blotter, then she has a voice. The BLotter Diva does not have ESP... there is no way I could have magically known what is "well known around the club" if the woman in question chose not to report it to police. Many times, battered women chose not to press charges -- it is not my job to judge that decision, only to report what happens as told to the police by BOTH parties involved. To say I have no sympathy toward battered women seems a bit unfair. Again, if your friend has information or needs to get help, she has resources through the police, or the Blotter Diva would be happy to provide contact info.
That's bizarre that the cops got your sign so totally wrong.... the report definitely says "The Last Shall Be First." I commend your traffic protest -- you gotta be incredibly brave to stand anywhere near a highway during Atlanta rush hour... I've passed your comment on to my editor, too. Do keep me posted about any future protests and again, it's so marvelous to know the back-story behind the "lone-wolf protest". Thank you so much for taking the time to write this...

OK, Jon gets the Blotter "Eagle Eye" Award of the Week. According to police report, the mom is age 31 and the daughter is age 23. The Blotter Diva mistook 31 for 37 when she was performing simple math -- the mother would have been 8.... which seems hard to believe. Perhaps Mom was lying about age, as Ray says, ... or it was reported incorrectly.
In any case, perhaps the next time I do simple math in "The Blotter," I should send it to Jon first, before putting it in print for all the world to see! Jon, thanks for upholding the rep of English majors everywhere (except me, of course). Thanks -- lauren keating, "The Blotter Diva."
Good Grief! The Blotter Diva is very embarrassed about her math error in print!.... will go back and check police report.... Jon, thanks for catching it. Good to know some former English majors out there can count, even if I can't. Will report back on mother's age shortly. -- lauren keating, "The Blotter Diva"
Fair enough, george. The Blotter Diva does admit that she's never used a check-cashing service that wasn't a bank..I don't know what they charge for that, and didn't consider it. Still, the $10,000 was a nice bonus... thank you for the careful math eye -- laurenk.
Candycane, thanks for the kind words on the Blotter! I love hearing feedback.
Victor, on the DNR topic any pertinent reports can be emailed to me at firstname.lastname@example.org, if you'd like to send them along.
