Re: “Making Cenci of East Atlanta

The first thing I noticed when I walked into Cenci was that I immediately felt uncomfortable. If you spend way too much time and effort trying to look hip, you'll fit in nicely, but for the rest of us, it's just overbearing. As for the food, if by "obviously cooked when ordered" you mean, "took way too long to get" then yes, I agree. I may be able to forgive a long wait if the food is worth it, but this time it simply wasn't. My high hopes for their vegetarian spin on traditional dishes were quickly dashed when I tried the fish tacos. Interestingly, the fish substitute was acceptable, but nothing else about the dish even closely resembled any fish taco I've ever eaten. And while I respect the attempt to blend new flavors into old classics, this one simply failed. Add to that the fact that the waitress made enough mistakes at our table and the table next to us to convince me that she'd never waited tables a day in her life and you come out with a dining experience that disappointed on every front.
