Re: “Southwest residents fear being cut out of the beltline

It seems the primary purpose of the beltline has been lost in the shuffle. While city beautification and an expanded park system are wonderful amenities, what our city needs most is more comprehensive public transit, which was the original vision of the beltline. "Parks first, development follows, and then transit[?]" Why do we have to wait so long for the component of the beltline that our city actually needs? Why is the PATH foundation involved in a transit project in the first place? Their projects tend to be more dangerous for cycle commuters than the roads they paralell. And because the focus has been shifted from transit to beautification, folks along the proposed route are beset by skyrocketing property taxes on the one hand and bloodthirsty speculators on the other. If the beltline is to prosper, its stewards need to remember that it's a transit project and act accordingly
