The Mayor also said in his campaign promises, that Atlanta would attract and retain the best and brightest!!! generally speaking, municipal and government workers are historically underpaid. The benefit for this work IS the BENEFITS!!!! If you are going to cut the benefits, then pay people what they are worth and let them handle their own retirement. It is another bad policy to try and change existing employee pensions, the pensions of those who are vested, because someone made a bad decision. The public at large is never happy with city employees. I encourage all you nay sayers to take a job with the city, enjoy the substandard pay for hours worked, and the paltry pension you will receive after giving thirty years of service. No one has to worry about that anymore because no one is ever going to retire from the city again with the awful wages and pension in place now!
