With Anne Quatrano's presence no longer felt at Baccanalia, Atlanta finally has a new top dog in town. Though the majority of the city might not know it yet, Restaurant Eugene has emerged as our city's best gourmet restaurant. The fine brunoised bread in the Tuna and Hamachi Tarta to the perfectly braised Veal shank show how fantastically trained chef Linton Hopkins is, while the PB&J dessert (Peanut Butter Creme Brulee with Conchord Grape Sorbet, Beignet donut balls, and Coke Float) shows his playful soul. The mixture of the two is nearly impossible to find, and harder to call anything but delicious. With Eugene set to open a sister Restaurant adjacent from their current space, as well as an authentic bakery soon, look for Chef Hopkins and company to grab a stranglehold on Atlanta fine dining.
