paul was way ahead of his time. there were other places to play in town but if you were a young punk band getting started the plex was were you made your mark. 688 was for the old folks. the white dot had crappy sound, the exit had to many hippies. no punk club had the sound system that the plex had. paul gave bands a place to get started without worrying so much about ticket sales!! we were just 4 dumb kids from the burbs who couldn't play to save our lives and paul let us open for acts like Samhain, The Meatmen, JFA, DDT, guys way out of our league. it was that pressure that helped us improve. i think clubs like the earl, lenny's , and the drunken unicorn owe alot to pauls' vision.
