Dear Mr. Williams,
Warren St. John's premise that there was a soccer ban in Armistead Field was false, prejudice no, The use of Armistead Field was restricted to children, the field was willed to the city with those restrictions, read the sign posted at the field, and the field had been in disrepair for years. For some time Sudanese refugees who were eighteen and older were playing unsupervised soccer on the weekends and tearing up the field. That was what was banned. Not The Fugees.
The fact that was not brought out was that there was a field for baseball and one for soccer, which the fugees practice on now to this date, there was no press on that, just that our Mayor was prejudice.
What Mr. St. John's missed was that they had been playing on the CCC field for free. The things that the CCC has done are missing from the article, the NYT only prints sensationalism, the ugly picture of racism and intolerance has affected our City. Come on out to Clarkston and see for yourself. The Vietnamese, Ethiopian and Eritrean community has a good working relationship with the City. I was interviewed for around 3 hours and all he wrote was that I said give me give me, I protest to the NYT about Mr. St. John's original article with no reply, "Everybody is welcome in Clarkston.
