Hey everyone from way back in the day! I'm jimi newton, I had long bleached blonde hair & wore a black leather biker jacket, black leather engineer boots ala Jim Morrison & Glenn Danzig respectively, and mostly black concert t-shirts in the mid-80's when I hung out @ The Plex. which I tended to frequent quite a lot back then!
Btw, I'm 45 now, and amazingly still have my long hair, it's just not bleached blonde anymore! lol I think my first Plex show was in 1985 or 86 when the Circle Jerks played (I can't really remember which!) but I do remember getting to the show & not even having enough money for a train back home in dekalb county, chamblee.
I also remember asking Keith Morris (the CJs lead singer) for a buck or two, if he had it, and he gladly obliged. What great shows I saw back then too! I saw everyone from Megadeth, Savatage, Wendy O. Williams & The Plasmatics (RIP Wendy, you were ALWAYS one of my faves!) Corrosion Of Conformity, Samhain, Death Angel, Overkill, Anthrax, Testament, Bloodfeast, The Necros, Paul Di'Anno's Battlezone, etc. oh & who couldn't forget The Plex's Premier house band, Hallows Eve! I cannot even count how many times I saw HE @ The Plex back then!
Incidentally, I was also @ the very infamous VENOM (NO SHOW) show that night too! And the openers were: Jerry Weldon's Threshold Of Pain, Holy Innocence & Hallows Eve!!!
The Plex was a home away from home for a lot of us back then.
It was a very cool & memorable place where everyone hung out &
there was definitely a sense of a real community when you were there! Something unfortunately lacking in our current ATL scene. :(
I guess that's why I always feel kinda nostalgic & melancholy now
when I think about it. Good times & some great times were had by all
who attended!!! :) Sure, the place was a dive, but back then, it WAS OUR DIVE and OUR PLACE to be who we wanted to be!!! :)
If any of my old friends & peeps, I hung out w/ back then read this, hit me up on myspace-myspace.com/darkevillordviper666
and check out my band that I'm Lead singer/Front man in
w/ Rob Meeks of Atlanta's old skool thrash metal band, Dark Overlord-
The Velveeta Brothers!-myspace.com/velveetabrothersrocks
I'd really love to talk w/ any of you that remember me!
