Driving and parking are so heavily subsidized--recovering some of those costs seems perfectly appropriate.

Same Roads, Same Rules, Same Rights mentality puts cyclists at a distinct disadvantage. Those "rules" were made to protect car drivers from each other and often have very little to do with making cyclists (and pedestrians) safer.
