So this is, like, comedy skits or something?
You are three awesome people and I hope I get to see you when I come back to Atlanta for Christmas.
WHEN REACHED FOR COMMENT ON RELAPSE BEING NAMED ONE OF THE TOP COMEDY CLUBS, JOE GALLOIS SAID "YOU'RE WELCOME"
Okay. Here we go. A much wiser man than I pointed out that it takes two to tango. I totally flew off the handle without having all the facts. I've been stressed about all things comedy lately and took it out on a journalist doing his job. It was unfair and I apologize. Although I still think some of the choices made in the article were unfair, I can say the same thing times a thousand in regard to my response. The comedy community is almost all the family I have and I can be fiercely defensive of it and in this case I think irrationally so. If a review is good, bad, or in between it still brings awareness of the subject being reviewed to the public and as we all know the public will make up their own minds regardless of what anyone else says. I don't know Curt Holman and it wasn't a negative article. I've actually really enjoyed his past contributions to Creative Loafing and look forward to reading his work in the future(hopefully with a cooler head). I would also like to publicly apologize to his colleague (I don't think he wants his name mentioned) that I insulted in my previous post. It was inappropriate and petty and I truly am sorry. He wrote to me and we hashed it out. Is there anything FB can't fix? At one point I called Holman a "Pencil Pushing Pussy". This served no purpose other than just being mean. He is a journalist so I assume he uses some sort of Apple product and not a pencil. I also saw a picture of him on FB and he in no way resembles a vagina. Believe it or not I actually do try to be a good person and most of the time I do a good job of it. However, sometimes stress, anger, and frustration get the better of me and a post, like my previous one, gets (regretfully) written.
Who's this Matt Pharr guy? What an asshole. Why does he always fly off the handle like that, post something on the internet, calm down, then wish he'd been more civilized and thought things out a bit more? I truly do hope the slight was unintentional and if it was I apologize. But if it wasn't, I stand by my original post.
I've done some homework and it turns out that a performer buddy of the author got the boot from Relapse Theatre not too long ago. I was surprised that such a seasoned and respected member of the press neglected to mention that. On second thought, if he had mentioned it, his readers may have realized that he might not be capable of writing an unbiased, fare, and objective review of a comedy theatre with an amazing history, staff, and roster of performers(his buddy not included). It was a good move not to mention it. Something like that might make people question his journalistic integrity or lack there of. A smart move indeed but not an honest one. Unlike the author of this review I will freely admit to being quite biased. Bob Wood is a dear friend of mine. I, and many other people, know first hand about the staggering amount of work and money and bullshit politics that went in to making Relapse Theatre possible. Six years of not sleeping, six years of barely being able to afford to eat, six years of back-breaking(and I do mean back-breaking) labor. Just so some pencil pushing pussy can call us wannabes? I'm a seasoned stand-up comic. I make money from comedy and I do it with honesty when I'm on stage. They call it integrity. Some of the biggest comics in the country come through Relapse when they're in town and it's because they love it there. No offense to the Jay Revis post but, "unintentional" my ass. In the future you should save the term "wannabe" for fifteen year old white kids playing gangster at Phipps Plaza and writers like yourself.
The headlining spot was pushed back to next tues at limerick juction if anyone would like to attend. It's a free show just kick back have some drinks and laugh
