Re: “"The horror! The horror!" Frightful festivals feud with fury

I am solely getting involved in this blog because I feel Eric Panter robs budding film makers of their entry fees by overstating his turns outs and popularity and understating his lack of promotion or industry presence. When I first starting working with Eric in spring of 2007 he spoke off a so-called "jaded, jealous and angry" ex volunteer named Luke. He had me believing the same thing about Luke, although I had never met him, and may have people believe the same of me. At first, I just thought Eric was quite talented at spin and hyperbole as a promoter may do in order to grow his business. It took me about a year till I really started noticing how much he lied on his websites and to his film makers and his sponsors in order to look legitimate. I stuck around because I didn't want all my hard work to go to waste and I saw great potential in his festivals. I never understood why he never had any money to put into the festival if he was so full he was now rejecting films and why always had me trying to get people to donate their time, effort and venues for the "good of the arts." He showcases different films simultaneously at various venues so he can gain more revenue from the door not to offer more space to showcase the films. His festival's do not have any industry presence. I was interviewed for an article by the Tico Times, an english written newspaper aimed at expats, down in Costa Rica for a festival we put on there. He scolded me for telling the truth about the crowd turnout for the event. I stated the good crowd as a fluke, because I knew we did no promoting in Costa Rica nor did any of the money invested by film makers or the sponsors, aside from the flyer hand-out at the festival, go into web promoting or to his crew. The entry fees from Montezuma Film Festival(now part of Costa Rica Festival) paid for his flight and his food and beverages. Eric knows how to manipulate google and search engines to make the festival appear popular when in fact there is always a lousy turnout. To Beth and Lisa, I worked with you on festivals in Atlanta and you Lisa in Costa Rica. None of them in Atlanta had more than 15 people in one venue at a time and the festival in Costa Rica the 2nd year was a complete bomb. Eric's interest has always been aimed at making money and not about promoting films. Had it been the latter I would've gladly stayed on and continued to invest my money, effort and time in his events. Perhaps he has turned over a new leaf. I hope so.
