The mayor has actually had a pretty bad year. Lost his pick for DPG Chair and thus the control of the democratic political establishment. Lost the Braves Stadium. Lost his allies Lamar Willis and Reuben McDaniel. Lost the respect of a lot of intown liberals with his heavy hand in the municipal elections and the Kock money. His shine is looking a little tarnished at the moment.
And, the word around town is that he has yet to call any of the people who defeated any of his supported candidates. What a brat.
The AJC article has less info than the CL post.
Archibong lost in court, and the judge ruled against her restraining order.
I am sure that is the cost of filing the lawsuit.
If she plans on silencing her critics, then I think it is time we silence her.
Why would anyone respond to Mr. Cardinale's inquiries? He had already publicly stated that he supports "The Bong;" endorsing her, carrying her water, and has her ads all over his site. If you want to be considered a journalist you have to show some sort of integrity. There is no way that anyone would get a fair article written about them from APN.
It's also interesting to note that there is no process at APN for endorsements. There is no committee, there is no editorial board, there is only Mr. Cadinale. That is not journalism.
Nice blog entry Mr. Cardinale.
Blogger Matthew Cardinale is not credible. While has has won some notable victories (and bravo for that), his pursuits are marred by other actions. The problem lies with his conflicts of interest. It seems that if one wants to get good marks from Cardinale it is important to advertise on his blog.
This instance is a perfect example of Mr. Cardinale's conflicts of interest. Mr. Cardinale has always been good at getting at truths that some members of City government want to hide. He has written about things that no one else will write about, but if you happen to be one of his advertisers you get preferential treatment. The fact that a City Council member who pays her family members, pays her personal clients who are in collections with the City with Taxpayer money, pays her live in boyfriend to work for her and then gets him a job in another department (oh, and that was never disclosed on her personal financial statements), has the worst attendance and on time record of any city council member, and took money from Falcon Stadium and Airport contractors would normally be within the scope of Mr. Cardinale's blog. Yet, she is a long time advertiser and booster of Mr. Cardinale. None of those stories has had any coverage on his blog, except for weak defenses that only highlight Mr. Cardinale's biases.
This would not be an issue if Mr. Cardinale did not purport to be a journalist, not a blogger. National Enquirer has more journalistic integrity. Just look at the latest "story." A real journalist would have checked his facts, not just taken them wholesale from the the Archibong campaign. A simple Google search would have taken care of his mistake. A real journalist would have pointed out that the science behind cellphone towers and cancer is inconclusive and not suggest otherwise. What Mr. Cardinale wrote is at best an editorial - not journalism, not reporting.
It's really sad to see someone who has done so much to bring light into the dark places of City Government show that he can be bought for a measly $1,400. I am sure he will do well as a lawyer.
