Let me say for the record, I've never met Mr. Eyester and I've never dined at Rosebud. I only heard about "The Angry Chef" through a friend of mine who is a frequent diner at Rosebud.
As for the debate over StevieB's comment: I'm inclined to agree with those who have called him out on being, well, arrogant. I worked in retail for many years and I dealt with my fair share of angry people. I would say that the majority of the time, the customer is in the wrong.
Are there rude employees? Absolutely. But tell me, how many times could you handle being talked down to, yelled at, and complained about (often to someone who's job is simply to calm the customer, and which only vindicates the customer's illogical whims)? Sure, servers and retail employees "choose" to be in the industry. Some do it because they enjoy it, many, as I did for a time, do it because there is a shortage of higher paying jobs.
I'm a firm believer that you should do your job and do it well, regardless of if you like it or not (and if you don't like it, then you should work towards employment that suits you), but maybe as a customer, stepping outside the box of your immediate surroundings and looking at what is going on would be beneficial. Sure, the server may have been a bit sluggish bringing you a glass of water, or forgotten your martini -- but maybe that same server is working long shifts to pay for their education. Maybe, as I was when I worked in retail, they had responsibilities of housing, food, transportation and an education to work through. Taking a bit more of a compassionate view of the world is often worthwhile.
Now, as I mentioned, there are servers that shouldn't be in the industry. I've requested to speak to a manager more than once at a restaurant. The difference is, unlike the customers that The Angry Chef Tweets about, I did it with a little something called "tact".
If you had an issue with your service, perhaps you should have asked for a manager. It wouldn't have hurt. If you feel so inclined, send a note to the restaurant and give them a chance to correct it.
At the worst, maybe you would have been Tweeted about, but again, I hardly see any reasonable requests as being those that cause a reaction from The Angry Chef.
Instead, you chose to sulk about how bad your service was, and make a comment on Mr. Eyester's blog. How does this benefit you? How does this benefit anyone, really? If you have a problem, address it through the proper channels.
It is quite obvious to most people that read The Angry Chef's Tweets and the "character" that it is merely a way to vent and joke about bad patrons. There are no names listed, no physical descriptions other than perhaps "man" or "woman".
I'm not attacking your criticism -- it very well may be valid. I'm merely suggesting your method seems to be of the variety that is pointless. Or, maybe your criticism is completely made up and you're just trying to complain to get a free meal.
Cardinale is a menace to the city and to journalism. Hopefully this fiasco discredits him (more than he already has been, that is).
