Thanks for the article Cinque. The High will be a small regional museum as long as it continues to act like a small regional museum. Such a shame as Atlanta is capable of and deserves so much more.
At the heart of the issue with the High is lack of balance. It's fine to stage big name shows with more dead French artists to pay the bills but this needs to be balanced with a commitment to educate and excite the community -- even to the point of discomfort. This is something the High museum fails miserably at and as long as Shapiro is at the helm this unbalanced approach will continue. He is quite adept at chasing away anyone with a different point of view regardless of how deep your pockets are or how committed you are to the community. I long ago gave up on the High and now put my dollars to private and public projects with a much more contemporary and worthy vision.
