Re: “Indie restaurateurs deserve a chance

To foodie2 and Chucky - I'm a part of NPU-M, which is where Dynamic Dish was located. We're the NPU for Downtown Castlebury and O4W, and I can tell you that first and foremost, we support almost every liquor license that comes before us, for two reasons: we know that most restaurants need the licence in order to have a viable business (revenue from liquor sales is CRUCIAL for most small restaurants) and, second, because we're tired of seeing shuttered streets like Edgewood and want to support those who are taking the plunge of opening a new business in this crazy economy. In circumstances where granting a liquor license doesn't make sense, like granting one so a liquor store can open across the street from a school, there have been occasions of non-support by the NPU.

So in the case of NPU-M, no, we are not flexing bureaucratic muscles in a NIMBY power trip. We're making a concerted effort to support local business. I would strongly encourage ALL of you to get involved in your NPU and actually show up for a meeting before you take off blaming them. Maybe your NPU has a different attitude than ours, but you need to actually participate and show up to find out. If you don't like the way things are being done, then say something about it, and DO something about it. Don't make CL do all your investigating and whistle blowing for you.
