To clarify, if art is to be judged by a democratic process (as opposed to an authoritative one), then the art that will rise to the top again and again will be kitsch (thus the comment about fashion, video games, gossip, etc.)
I'm not saying there is anything wrong with this, I'm pointing out that a lot of people are going to have to let go of Romantic/Modernist ideas about creativity, originality, taste, and value.

Fine art is dead, therefore fine art criticism is dead.
If you want 'contemporary art' criticism, read a fashion magazine, video game review blog, or gossip column. The problem is that people are holding on to a wholly archaic idea of art - one that only exists in art school and the hearts of those sentimental for the early part of the 20th century...
