RSOonline (January 27, 2011 at 5:14 PM): As long as you give the criminal governments the information that is required, when it is required, I do not think there is any significant risk at all of being arrested for inaccurate information. You simply have to keep written, signed copies of everything that you give them. If they mess it up after you give it to them, so what? Too bad for the Registry terrorists.
If you are like nearly everyone on the Registry and you only have to visit a criminal government once per year (unless some information changes), then you only have to give them the information once and keep a copy of that. Just make sure that you do not communicate in any fashion with them other than that one time. I know that the criminal governments like to visit people who are Registered and ask them to sign additional papers or whatever, but you should NEVER do that for any reason. You have no legal obligation at all to do it and there is no benefit for you to do it. All that you have to do is give them the information that is legally required, you have no obligation at all to verify it (except for certain specific cases if you want to gain a benefit, e.g. like staying in a home that you own that they are trying to kick you out of).
If they mess up the information that you have given them or they can't properly verify the information and they even do so much as issue a warrant against you, let alone arrest you, you should sue them. You will win. Take their money. They will do nothing good with it anyway.
I will have to disagree with you about your characterization of my "ranting" as "irrational". In fact, there is nothing irrational about it. And it is certainly more rational than the governments and their SEX OFFENDER witch hunt.
Believe me, if you think just because a majority of people want something and some criminal government creates a law that establishes it, that it is right, you are dead wrong. In fact, this country was structured around the concept that hated individuals are protected from the tyranny of a majority. And this country has proven over and over again, that the majority of its people will do clearly stupid, immoral, idiotic things to whomever it is they happen to hate at that moment. Most of the people who support the Registries are not good people trying to "protect children".
I do agree with you that my "ranting" will not accomplish the things that you said. That is not my goal.
The Registries are stupid. There is no excuse for their existence. They are a problem. As long as they exist I am going to ensure that the terrorists who support them have much bigger problems.
The simple fact is that if parents do what they MUST do in order to protect their children from sexual offenses (i.e. primarily, educate and supervise their children), then they have no need or use for a SEX OFFENDER Registry. For parents, the Registries are negligibly beneficial, because the person who is going to molest your children is not listed there. Therefore, if you protect your children against the people who are going to molest your children, it doesn't matter if you have a Registry to know about someone down the street who did something a decade ago. Or even if perhaps that Registered would be the person who would try to molest your children, it wouldn't mattered because you've protected your children against anyone. As you absolutely must, Registry or not.
Additionally, people who are Registered and want to commit a crime, can very, very easily arrange just exactly the type of situation that they need, with people and children who know nothing about the fact that they are Registered. I know this is a fact. At least it is in even modestly sized cities (and I'm certain that is where most Registered people live).
In reality, the Registries are negligibly beneficial. And if they were ONLY that, they wouldn't be such the immoral catastrophe that they are. But unfortunately, they are not just worthless, they are COUNTERPRODUCTIVE, immoral, anti-factual, often clearly idiotic, often illegal, anti-religious, an extreme waste of limited resources, and un-American. INFORMED, good Americans do not support these laws.
I am completely convinced that there are more sexual crimes being committed today than there would be if the Registries did not exist. People who believe the Registries do anything productive are dreaming fools.
One last thing - I would just like to briefly state why the Registries are immoral. The main reason that they are immoral is that there are undeniably and certainly many more types and classes of crimes for which a Registry would be even more justifiable than it is for SEX OFFENSES. Those Registries do not exist. They fact that they do not exist gives us all some pretty good hints what the SEX OFFENDER Registries are REALLY about. They are not really about "public safety" or "protecting children". Those are lies.
America has a very, very long sordid history of some hateful majority doing stupid, useless things to the hated minority of the moment. The SEX OFFENDER witch hunt is just the latest example of that. Complete with all the nanny government rhetoric and propaganda to support it.
