You are not special.
If Atlanta Taxis had provided even decent service, then Uber, Lyft, and others wouldn't be so popular or much of a threat. So, Atlanta Taxis, what's your excuse? Can you really defend yourself? You made this bed, you squandered your chance by years and years of decrepitude and insolence. You should suffer.
At least they finally repaired the roof at Arts Center so when you're waiting on that bus for an hour you don't get dripped upon. You'd have thought, though, that while they were doing those repairs, they could have pressure-washed the place to get rid of the piss smell.
So slack-jawed idiots who don't even live in the Metro Atlanta area get to decide how car services should operate in Atlanta? The Atlanta taxi industry is a pitiful joke, they should have all died years ago. They're completely responsible for everyone hating them. Uber, Lyft, and anyone else who wants to come in and provide a great car service should be allowed. If Atlanta taxis can't compete, then good riddance.
Oh, I shouldn't forget the infamous ride from the airport to Midtown about 6 years ago. It was a Yellow cab. Car was filthy, but since it was the next in line, we had no choice but to accept it. Got onto the connector (it was rush hour so traffic was heavy), and right at the Grady curve suddenly there was a loud BOOM and the back of the car fell onto the roadway, sparks flying, the car sliding and swerving, other cars spinning out and colliding as we slid to the shoulder and stopped. We got out of the car and see that the entire rear axle/wheels are GONE, they are lying in the middle of the roadway many feet behind us. We were lucky to have not been hit by other cars. We waited for 20 minutes, another cab from the same company came to get us and our luggage. The driver of the dilapidated cab demanded we pay him before he would let us get our luggage! We were still in shock from the experience, so we complied... we just wanted to get home safely. The driver that picked us up delivered us to our home but then demanded we pay the flat rate from the airport!!! Yeah, gotta love that great customer service from Atlanta taxis. Die already.
I have to jump on the bash-Atlanta-taxi bandwagon. And yes, I tried using Atlanta Checker Cab and the service was terrible. I needed to go to the Amtrak station on Peachtree, it is about 2.5 miles from my home, I could normally walk it but I had luggage. Called Atlanta Checker Cab. Was on hold for 12 minutes. Finally got someone, they said a cab would be at my place in 20 minutes (huh? I'm on Peachtree RD in Buckhead, it takes 20 minutes?). OK, but after 40 minutes and no cab, I call back. On hold another 8 minutes (still no cab). Ask where is my cab, am told it'll be about 20 minutes. Right.... Cab finally shows up after an hour from the original call. Driver won't get out of the car, I load my luggage into the back. I tell him I'm going to the Amtrak station (I know the fare should be less than $10, and I planned to tip him of course but since he wouldn't bother getting out of the car to help with the luggage, that was now questionable). Driver starts bitching about it not being very far, he says he'll have to charge me $20 flat rate. WTF???? I say no, put it on the meter. He tells me to get my luggage out of the back, he's not going to take me. At this point I need to get to the station or I'll miss my train. I say fine. He drives me to the station. Again, he doesn't get out of the car, I throw him a $20, get out and get my luggage, he leaves. Since then, I've used UberX 4 times and LOVE IT. Cars are clean, drivers have been super courteous, and they are FAST (usually at my place in less than 5 minutes!). So Hewett, you can suck on Uber's exhaust, I'll never use your crappy cabs again.
I thought Trader Joe's already sold fruit and veggies that are past their prime, but at exorbitant prices.
There's just not enough "NO" in the world. Skip Ann's and drive over to Vortex if you must.
