Just because one advocate is a nutjob doesn't mean that all those who advocate the same position act the same way.
Cops should be respected, but they should also be accountable to the people they are supposed to protect. All arresting law-abiding citizens who record them on the job does is create an environment where abuse of power is made easier.
If you don't care to record cops, that's cool, but criticizing others for keeping our public servants accountable is pretty ridiculous. Police corruption happens everywhere, regardless of the rate of 'real crime' in any area. It's just another factor to watch out for.
Cops are neither inherently good or bad based on the job they hold, but we all grant them power to serve us. It's also up to us to make sure they are doing their job. Granting power to others blindly is just plain naive and dangerous in any situation. Cops are no exception to this rule.
