Failed to mention: parking in cities like New York on an average day will cost you between 12 and 50 dollars.
In Atlanta, it's between 2 and 10 dollars.
The reason Atlanta parking companies can keep prices so low is because of these self serve parking lots with booters.
you see the self serve meter thing keeps costs down: no attendant needed, and no automated gates at the entrance and exits.
but without those things you lose revenue due to tourists just walking away because hey, when you're on vacation, you don't have to think, right? just park and walk away. and also the blatant violators also cause a loss of revenue.
so the booters are there to make sure that the parking company can keep their revenues at a maximum and their costs at a minimum.
the savings are passed on to the customer. beleive me, these parking companies haven't been able to pay the rent on these 90 million dollar properties in years, the actual property owners are just accepting half of the revenue because it's better than nothing.
you want no boots? fine, park in an automated parking deck, it will cost 30 dollars, and you won't have to think for yourself at all.
