Re: “The Residents: In the eye of the beholder

Terrific article, Chad. Brought back memories of seeing The Residents (with Snakefinger, no less) at 688 back in the day. The show (one installment of a two-nighter, if memory serves) was rollicking along with the greatest of Residential fun-filled abandon, when something happened. The space-time continuum was interrupted.

Whatever raging guitar mania had been transporting everyone to a frenzied state suddenly dissipated, turned downbeat, and morphed into an entirely new, deeply soulful groove. Before we could discern exactly what was happening, the lead vocalist broke into an exquisitely heartfelt rendition of "It's A Man's World" complete with synthesized string section and a swooning chorus.

Mind you, this was one-or-so in the morning at 688, not normally what anyone would have considered a ripe environment for a sentimental journey. Regardless, as the song progressed, looking around the room, I saw more than a few eyeballs in the crowd with tears falling from them.

Re: “Lonnie Holley: A life rendered in music

The "logic" was a brain fart by the writer. Apologies to all readers, and especially to the editor.
