Re: “Is the Beach Boys' Mike Love a hero or villain?

It's amazing to me the Love Bashing that still is occuring.
Bottom line Mike and Brian were the groups best singers.
Mike was the lead singer and his voice still holds up. He was the lyricist for many of those songs, as was shown in his winning the lawsuits over denied copyrights. Brian needed someone for lyrics: Tony Asher; Mike Love and sadly Van Dyke Parks who is overated. If Lucky Old Sun was any sign of his ability to create a hit with Brian then we are lucky that Mike was there when he was trying to create his legacy using Brian.
When Carl passed away the Beach Boys fractured. He was the glue that kept it together. He was the one that led when drugs destroyed Brians mind. Alot is said of the genius of Brian, deservedly, and alot is said of the evil of Love, I don't think is fair but I am embarrassed by his speech at the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame so maybe he does bring some problems on himself, but not enough is said of Carl and his contributions and his importance to the band.
