I fell in love wioth Caribbean food during my years in NYC and visits to Trinidad. Jamaican Cove is a small restaurant in Hapeville which specializes in Curries (Chicken, Goat, and Veggie) as well as Jerk Chicken and Oxtail. I get a small (transation: mammoth) curried chicken plate with rice and peas, plantains, and cabbage once a week. I'm an average-sized man with a strong appetite; I can't imagine who could order a large portion.
The curry is terrific. Sybil is a great woman with a dedicated clientele who do mostly takeout -- there are a few tables covered with oilcloth and you can eat in and schmooze with the other customers.
Have to agree. I think Colonnade has the best fried chicken I've ever had (and great, greaseless fried shrimp). But I'd like to put in a plug for Maritza and Frank's, on Central Ave. in Hapeville, near the airport, who cook up a mean fried chicken as well. Try the dark meat and pair it with some butter beans and greens.
