Folks are homeless for a variety of reasons. Not just in downtown Atlanta, but across the metro. There is a fantastic non-profit in Gwinnett called the Salt Light Center. They focus on helping women and children who need a place to stay, food, and clothing.
Please consider checking them out here (I do not work for them, I just donate to them, and I don't even live in Gwinnett): http://familypromisegwinnett.org/saltlight…
It's one thing to talk about this issue, it's another to choose to do something.
My bet is on GSU for this area. If you aren't aware (though I'm sure most of you are), GSU's continued commitment to downtown (by way of tons of student housing, frats, street improvements, etc.) will trickle south. I've heard reports that GSU would like to incorporate student housing into the Underground area. Instant feet on the street. You could argue that this won't happen, but take a drive downtown around Piedmont at 11pm at night...it's amazing. Students everywhere. All because of GSU.
