Goodfuckingheavens! All of these accolades over a fucking mixtape?? A mixtape?? My 8 year old nephew made me a killer 80's mixtape with a program he got for his birthday last year. Shit, I've got a pretty gnarly playist bumpin' on my ipod right this very minute. I don't have an ultra-stupid DJ name like Speakerfoxxx, but I'm willing to share.
Goodfuckingheavens! What the fuck is with the shitty "street" lingo in everything Rodney writes??
1. nothing but the funk "bumpin' out the back"
2. Shawn's type of "get-down"
3. oft-sampled 1973 "joint"
4. podcast mixes "drop" every Tuesday
Shit, dude, you forgot to wedge "chillin", "ballin", "illin" and "tight" in there some where.
Gutta World needs writers. Check in to it.
For "music as a whole."?? Really?? Perhaps you had a few too many cocktails, because that was nothing but elevated smooth jazz. The Nirvana cover was uber-lame (and has been done before) and the Radiohead cover was just weak. Soul/Jazz is just a convenient excuse for R&B fans to think they like jazz without having to do any work to find out about any real jazz. The Dilettante's makeout music at absolute best.
Bask in the glory of what was, Antipollution/profoodchain, but it boils down to this: you put everything into it, with the exception of songs that were good enough to support a career. If anyone still cared, you'd still be in that band. I have a dollar that says it was a ska/reggae/jam band. Wait....wait....a punk band with a real "message."
Justin - seriously - if you want to keep your Juggalo status on the down-low, then you shouldn't comment on Crib-Notes.
You forgot to add "good" to your list. It's not exactly good either....
Smooth jazz for the dilletante.
Robert Glasper's 5 ways to improve black radio:
1. Make a better record than the weak shit I'm currently pimping.
2. Make a better record than the weak shit I'm currently pimping.
3. Make a better record than the weak shit I'm currently pimping.
4. Make a better record than the weak shit I'm currently pimping.
5. Make a better record than the weak shit I'm currently pimping.
Worry less about black radio and more about making GOOD records that matter instead of "soul/jazz" (Read: Only slightly less washed out smooth jazz).
