The Nuclear Construction Cost Recovery fee on your Georgia Power bill is corporate welfare. The company should pay this not the ratepayers but our legislative branch is mostly bought and paid for by Southern Company as well as the Public Service Commissioners. You are also paying for more radiation in the environment thus more cancer. You are paying Southern Company to kill you.
I real friend of Occupy would never go on a public trashing as George has done. If you really cared about Occupy and the direction, strategy, goals, etc you would have sent your letter to Occupy not CL. I don't know your agenda or intentions toward Occupy, but with friends like you who needs enemies. Occupy is not an organization, it is occupying problem areas like foreclosed homes and trying to save them. It is occupying the State Capitol and working with diverse groups to kill an oppressive bill. It is occupying a bad situation and staying until you make it better. It is not doing something once a month or writing one letter or making one phone call or going to one protest or one meeting and expecting the world to change. It is occupying a situation and staying 24/7 through freezing weather, rain, heat, media distortions, public criticism, police intimation, etc., etc., etc. until there is some positive change. Occupy is a higher level of commitment.
Yes, everyone has an opinion about Occupy, just like everyone has a head. Occupy is not perfect and neither is any organization or person. Occupy has accomplished more than most people who are criticizing them. Occupy Atlanta has helped save one church and one home from foreclosure. Occupy has changed the conversation in the country. Occupy Atlanta helped the Unions at AT&T and saved some jobs. Occupy Atlanta was part of the coalition that stopped SB 469 from becoming law in Georgia. Occupy is not a year old yet. These successes may not be enough for some people but it is more than I have seen others accomplish in such a short time.
Yes, Occupy is a diverse group of people. It is not just white or black, middle-class, college educated people and that is the very reason I like Occupy so much. We are a mishmash of everything including different religions and political philosophy. Occupy is black, white, young, old, homeowners, homeless, college educated, street wise, Muslin, Christian, Jewish, Democrats, Marxist, Greens. Yes, we are not perfect and never will be. We are caring, dedicated, concerned, involved, informed, committed, visionaries, and humanitarians who care about the corruption in our government and corporations that puts profits above people. Yes, Occupy is often like trying to herd a group of cats with everyone going in a different direction. If you are looking for something more organized and professional like most corporations then Occupy is not for you. If you are looking for a dedicated caring group of people who want to make the world better even if they don't always know how to do that and who celebrate diversity then you will like Occupy. If you have unrealistic expectations and want immediate results don't join Occupy.
I was there and the bank was closed and the windows blinds also closed. The employees and customers were inside. The bank closed when they heard us coming. When we left, nothing was sprayed on the windows. The couch, mattress and other stuff was left in front of the door as symbolic of what Chase does to people's homes in a foreclosure.
