What Yerkes fails to mention is that Wenka is suffering psychological harm (not to mention the pain and stress of the physical experiments themselves). Wenka's reported "rocking" behavior and “1000 mile stare” are proof of that. Are we so insensitive that we as a society would allow another living being to be treated that way? Especially a being who is as close to us as a chimpanzee; they are intelligent and social mammals who have many human-like behaviors, including the ability to mourn.

Also, many countries have a ban, or at least a severe restriction, on the use of non-human great apes in research. It is backwards and unethical to use great apes for research. Wenka should be placed in a sanctuary immediately!
