Whittaker School was designed by L. Miles Sheffer, I believe. He died in 2002 according to the AJC obituary, and did other interesting work from the period, including designing the original Shoney's prototype and the Buccaneer Motel on Jekyll Island. One of his business partners is quoted: "His school designs tended to be rectilinear or octagonal. He liked the octagonal shape because it provided the maximum interior space for the least amount of exterior material."
