Re: “Gov. Deal: proposed amendment will make charter schools more like 'grocery stores'

I found your comments regarding Autumn getting paid and not writing the letter herself very offensive. I am her grandfather and I know she wrote it. On the other hand your comment that a 7th grader could not write such a letter demonstrates the effectiveness of her school. My children attended Dekalb public schools more than 15 years ago, but if they were in school now I would send them to charter or private schools. I have been very impressed by the the dedicatioon of the staff at Ivy Prep in Dekalb county. If students are not performing satisfactorily they are required to attend on Saturdays. They will not tolerate bad behavior and maintain an atmosphere that is condusive to learning. When I moved to Dekalb county more than 30 years ago, most peoplo said that Dekalb county had the best schools. I don't think that is true anymore.
Parents need an alternative to Dekalb regular schools. The amendment should be passed for the sake of our children.
