Re: “Are men basically just assholes?

I have been divorced for ten years and riding the insanity that is the dating train. I am height/weight proportionate, no kids and gainfully employed. And single. I am not overly picky - I have close relationships with my family and wonderful friends. I think they would describe me as really non-judgmental. However, normal guys (sober, no felony convictions, showered in the last week- not kidding) don't approach me. I tend to find that being in my 40's most of my options are man-childs, who want what I call a "mother/maid/whore" and have so much dysfunction it's not even worth the effort. I have many female friends in the same boat. Independent, professional women, who don't feel the need to play maid just to have a warm body in the house. Far too often I find that the available men won't make any effort. It doesn't help that there are plenty of codependent women willing to wipe their backsides. I have had plenty of situations where seemingly normal guys freak out and run - why? Because I expect them to be an equal partner. I guess I'll have to embrace being a Cougar. The younger set doesn't seem to have the same hang ups and they don't need Viagra.
