I think there has to be some recognition that things we wish to happen, hardly ever happen as fast as we would wish.
There should also be some attempt at taking the high road, as well. Civility in debate works better to change hearts and minds than insults and innuendo. Judge not your opponents simply because, for the moment, they oppose you. Extend the hand of friendship to those who may now refuse to accept it because someday, they just might.
Change rarely comes in at a gallop and so patience is often the best course.
