Currently, thanks to the hotel tax, the Dome is a huge money maker for the GWCC. The state of Ga makes more on Falcons ticket sales than Arthur Blank. The Falcons have the worst deal stadium deal in the NFL, so Blank wants a new stadium and a better revenue deal. The state does not want to lose its cash cow for the GWCC, so they need to be part of a new Falcons stadium. The state would be spending the SAME amount on operations and future mainantance on the old dome even if they kept it (for Bowls and other events) and had nothing to do with the new stadium, but they would be making less without any cut of Falcons revenue. So, once again, our Ga Republicans say "taxes bad" while continuing to take Atlanta tax revenue for a state project. Thats why the Republician state government is just laundering their money through the city and not lifting a finger to end the hotel tax. Personally, if the people taxed (the hotel owners) are happy with spending the money on a stadium (old or new) then I'm cool with getting a new building for the same money. Let's all put our efforts into making the new stadium a better development for the neighboring communities than the dome (cause it did squat).
