1) self-storage buildings are NOT cheap "to throw up." And they are hardly placeholders.
2) the owner will NOT wait for something else to come along because storage has been growing for some time and no one puts millions into something with the idea of changing it to something else in a few years.
3) storage isn't for stuff "people don't want to see" as the article states, but things they don't have room for in their homes. Sometimes, it is what many would consider junk; other times, it is valuable stuff.
4) slight difference re: the market deciding this and heroin dealing to kids. The latter is illegal; storage isn't. But don't let reality get in the way of "we're a half-step from becoming Somalia" ignorance get in your way.
